Tile Tuesday, a Barcelona edition
Not the most imaginative subject matter, since in Barcelona it could easily be Tile Tuesday, every day. In my defense it’s taken 24 hours to get home from Barcelona, and almost eleven of them were spent trapped in economy next to someone with a streaming cold. We need Star Trek transporter technology, and we need it now!
Even under overcast skies, the famous mosaic benches at Park Guell are a riot of colour:
The snakey curves create make for infinite different places to sit, and you can either watch life happening on the plaza, or look out over the city below. I thought this hat was perfectly coordinated with the surroundings:
I took way too many picture of different sections of the mosaic – I’ll have to sort some out and post them up on facebook, soon! I couldn’t help noticing this section though:
Do you recognise that blue tile from the Casa Batlló lightwell? Nice to see the leftovers being used up, isn’t it?
The tile colours are darker towards the top, to balance out the brighter natural light up there. The effect is gloriously luminous, even when the sun isn’t shining. I’ll leave you admire Gaudi’s masterpiece, while I try to figure out what time zone I’m in. Happy Tuesday!

Those are some glorious uses of tile, although I rarely see tile concepts that don’t intrigue me in some way. I still regard it as one of the most versitile and inventive concepts that absolutely ever was.
