Kitchens of Spain
It’s a frantic time here chez Clarity as I rush around getting ready for the great Barcelona adventure next week. Between the usual work stuff, trying to brush up some Spanish and fit in a quick crash course in Catalan, not to mention rehearsing for a concert on Saturday evening, I’m somehow not quite managing to put together the thoughtful and well planned blog posts you deserve.
Still, we can share a few kitchens from Spain, since that’s pretty much where my head is, anyway:
These country style kitchens are a little different from those sleek Barcelona kitchens I posted last week, aren’t they?

Do you remember this French kitchen with a similar bold chevron tile splash? Although I love the fresh green, I find the scale of these a bit overwhelming in this space. The giant zig-zags woulod be ideal for keeping the occupants of the room awake, I think – probably a good thing after one of those long Mediterranean lunches.
No such problem with this lovely, calming space – traditional and sophisticated at the same time:

That kitchen would work in a Mediterranean style house anywhere – though the undercounter washing machine is a dead giveaway that it’s not in the US. Well, and the tile counters, too. And I suppose the minimal amount of storage… I wouldn’t mind relaxing there with the kitty, though. How about you?

Thanks Gloria – I have a feeling I’ll just be tripping over it everywhere I go. And when I get back I take my mosaic course – I should certainly be inspired by then
Wouldn’t it look great in San Diego, Joseph? Though I agree, grout is too much hard work to maintain
Have a great time! Don’t forget to check out all the amazing Antonio Gaudi stuff in Barcelona. These kitchens are just so warm and inviting. They have a “livability” often lacking in their sleek new modern counterparts.

I especially like the last kitchen you showed. Not the washing machine, of course, but other than that, the kitchen itself has a wonderful grace to it. I like the tile they used too, although I have absolutely made up my mind that our new kitchen is NOT going to have tile countertops. Twenty-eight years of that is more than enough.
