Some Provencal Kitchens
It’s virtual vacation this week at Kitchen Clarity – meaning I’m stuck in my office working away, but I’m dreaming of far flung vacations. How about a trip to Provence?
I think the two above are more kitchens in Provence than kitchens of Provence – traditional Provencal kitchens have a very distinctive style – less wood, more plaster:
Here’s a treat – the Provencal kitchen of Marcel Proust’s Aunt, preserved in all its Spartan simplicity:
There’s not much kitchen there, is there, but the black and white tile is lovely. I had not realized that the black and white chevron layout I posted here was a riff on a traditional design. I don’t think cooking in that kitchen would be much of a vacation – there’s something to be said for the virtual kind, after all.

It is rather haunting, isn’t it – I don’t think I’d like to cook in it
My favorite is the last picture! It looks like a kitchen from the olden days, with a tiny smudge of eeriness!
