Organic forms – kitchens without right angles

07.14.2010 · Posted in Kitchens

While it’s not strictly true that there are no right angles in nature (there certainly are in table salt crystals), the  right angle and its derivatives certainly dominate our built environment, and our kitchens probably more than any other room in our homes.  Oh I know, there are all sorts of good structural and financial reasons for that, but there’s something so inviting about the curvy, organic forms of “dirt-based” building techniques, like adobe and cob construction. Does concrete count as “dirt”? It certainly can have that  hand crafted look:

How about a cob kitchen for summer use, no need for air condition, and you can make it yourself?

  1. The kitchen is very interesting. I’m not sure it wouldn’t present a problem keeping the edge of the countertop clean, but I like it just the same!
