My back to work happy face

07.07.2010 · Posted in Random thoughts

Much as I love the work I do, it’s always a jolt to return from a vacation in laid-back, upcountry Maui to the real world of the San Francisco Bay Area.  Not that we’re exactly formal here, but I went out this morning to do a spot of measuring, and it was a shock for my feet to be in something other than flip-flops or surf-shoes for the first time in quite a while. I totally understand how this chap feels:

Gnashing of teeth - even worse than the infamous British teeth?

Although, as his job is simply to watch over the landscape at the Hui Visual Arts Center, I’m sure he never has to worry about that last quarter of an inch in that corner, or the exact shade of cream in this tile backsplash. Really, what does he have to fret about?

A side effect of my extended unplanned stay in Wales, followed so quickly by my (almost) annual Maui trip, is that my editorial calendar (not as formal as it sounds – a little notebook with ideas, links, and jottings for future posts) has really been scattered to the four winds.  Well, the notebook is still in one piece, but it’s amazing how I lose interest in an idea after not acting on it for just a few weeks. Still, I think my brain has been swept clean and uncluttered by the tradewinds,  and I’m looking forward to getting my teeth (British or not) back into thinking and writing about kitchens, baths, and design, and especially into doing some designing.

So, dear readers, thanks for sticking with me while I’ve been so off subject for the last several weeks. Please do let me know if there are any topics you’d like me to address,  send me your questions here, or email me at sarah@kitchenclarity.com, and I’ll do my best to answer them.  For more specific help, I offer design consultations and complete design services locally and remotely – if you need help creating spaces that work hard for you every day and make you happy, let’s talk!

  1. Clarity says:

You are so organized Laurie! My real problem is that no amount of technology will rekindle my interest in mouldy old ideas. It’s a frame of mind problem, really.

  2. Evernote is a handy cyber notebook to keep your jots, musing, and more in one spot, accessible from a laptop in Maui or from your Smartphone, Cameraphone on the mainland. Love the fact I can be staring at a molding in a building, snap a photograph of it on my cameraphone and save it in my Evernote folder.

    Handy!
