Bold Backsplash Designs

07.27.2010 · Posted in Kitchens

I’m always telling people that the backsplash design is a good place to be bold and have fun, playing with the different textures and colors in your kitchen, emphasizing certain materials, or creating contrast.  Of course, there is the danger that my bold is your OMG, what have you done! Let’s start with the sublime (I’ll leave you to judge where we end up):

The matching tile in the toe-kick is just brilliant, isn’t it? No dozing off in that kitchen! Nor this one:

There’s something very endearing about the little red boots on those pilasters, I think. It would always be a sunshiny day in a kitchen with bright yellow tile, no matter if it’s raining cats and dogs outside:

Now, tile is certainly not the only way to go bold – there’s always custom artisan glass. This family of blobs is rather sweet:

The splash below claims to be re-purposed from discarded surfboards – I’m no expert, but I think it might actually be from skateboard decks?

And of course, if all else fails, and you don’t happen to have enough surf/skate boards to cut up, there’s always paint:

Definitely no problems being  bold and having fun there! Perhaps a little too much fun?

That would explain it – never been inside a meth lab myself, I’ll take your word for it! :)

  2. Oh, my eyes, my eyes! That last one….. Although just looking at the picture a little closer, it looks like it might be a meth lab of some sort. That would explain their fashion sense, right?
