Green Paint for a Relaxing Bath
Just a few classic green and white bathrooms for you today. Green is, according to theories of color psychology, the most relaxing color – with gray and white in this spare and elegant bathroom, it certainly works for me:
Here’s a simple green and white cottagey bathroom, from (dare I say it) Pottery Barn. Just a note – don’t do the lighting this way if you can possibly help it. There’s nothing like light from above to cast harsh and unflattering shadows on your face, and who needs that first thing in the morning? Lighting from the side at approximately face height is the best solution if you can arrange it:
Of course, I can’t resist this sweet bathroom painting from Carl Larsson – published in 1909. Just lovely! You really can’t beat a classic, can you? I wonder how long poor Lisbeth had to stand there, artistically draped – did her bathwater get cold? She does look a little peeved, don’t you think? Now if I could match the richness and complexity of Larsson’s green on my walls, I’d be truly happy…

I used to have a bathroom like Lisbeth’s. The green on the walls were thick victorian tiles and it was as cold as the Arctic. I imagine she is looking directly at where the little hot water tank was and dreaming wistfully of enough hot water to fill the bath rather than a few paltry inches at the bottom of the cold enamel tub.
