Art Everywhere – Traditonal Kitchen

05.11.2010 · Posted in Kitchens

The kitchen in this London home (via 1st Option) is a little out of the ordinary, in more ways than one. It was the lack of a backsplash at the range that first caught my attention.  Logically, as long as the art is behind glass, it should be no harder to clean than tile or stone above the range (and probably easier to take care of than the paintwork) – still, it’s not something you often see:

First Option

Stranger still,  there are two sinks on the island, sharing a single faucet.  I can see the logic of this too – two faucets would have cluttered up the island. Still, it must lead to some interesting situations if two cooks are competing for it at the same time.

Two sinks, one chef?

The unusual combination of blue counters and blue-er cabinets looks fresh against the white floor – while the copper pots, open shelves, and a friendly clutter of art and interesting objects provide plenty of  warmth and variety.  It’s a very individual kitchen, doubtless planned with great care, and yes, logic, by the people who use it most.  For a bonus, here’s the comfortable living room it connects to – now isn’t that inviting?

Comfy!

I hope they use all that stuff – it would be too sad if it were all just for show

  2. that is really an amazing kitchen, with all of the different pots and especially the copper pots, i love those. they must be amazing cooks to be able to work with that kind of equipment

Hi Bozena – certainly is a ton of stuff. Quite a commitment to dusting and cleaning!

  4. OMG, I’m overwhelmed by THE STUFF! Not easily cleanable…
Is this an antique rad by the island? I love it, and the fact that it is made to stand out instead of being hidden.
The cozy sitting room connecting to kitchen is always my favorite. The use of blue marries it with the kitchen.
