A good cup of tea ruined

05.10.2010 · Posted in Random thoughts, Sustainable Design

Here’s a thought provoking product from young Serbian designer Jovana Bogdanovic, via Yellowtrace:

Sugar Bears by Jovana Bogdanovic

It’s a simple and powerful message, though deep depressing thoughts about polar bears are perhaps not exactly what I need with my afternoon cup of tea.  I don’t know what proportion of the world’s energy resources are used boiling kettles, or whether taking a cold drink out of the refrigerator is actually any greener.  Guess I’ll just have to stick to tap water, or maybe a nice big cup of (organic) hemlock…

Hi Cheryl – I agree with you, all overwhelming. Depressing ourselves with drowning sugar bears won’t make anything better, though. Hard to imagine the enormous quantities of oil flowing into the gulf right now – and that there is no real plan to deal with it. Oh, lets cheer up and have that cup of tea!

  2. It is all so overwhelming. And, I sit here tonight worried that our beautiful beaches and natural habitats will be forever spoiled by the BP oil spill…or should I say oil gusher?

I am fully cognizant we will pay more at the pump if we do drill for oil in our own backyards but am willing to pay that price and start taking my huband and kids to work. It is just a lifestyle change and in a short time, you get used to it. Heavy sigh.

I can’t argue with you Jane – boy do we have work to do! Thanks for visiting.

Hi Adrienne – no worries. This product made me crabby too. I bet we could come up with a great logo for it though!

  5. How many polar bears were drowned in the printing and manufacturing process used to create sugar bears?

    Just saying … :)

Sorry. In a crabby mood today!

  6. Sugar polar bears. Tis depressing. We have work to do way beyond compost. Thanks for the thoughtful post and for dropping by to see my kitchen. Jane F
