Music while you work
Here’s a long time favorite of mine – a skillful rendition of the “Oh, just something I threw together” look (by Vinny Lee):
It’s got the cooks chair, open shelves for display and storage, and that eclectic rustic-meets-industrial-luxe look that Vinny Lee is so great at. And even a piano so you can play a few bars of Chopin while you’re waiting for your pot to boil.
Of course, this is the hardest kind of look to bring off successfully – one woman’s delightful character is another’s cluttered confusion. This and more like it are in Vinny Lee’s Kitchens: A Design Source Book, first published in 1998. One good thing about old design books is they help you figure out what stands the test of time for you, and what was just a passing trend.
