Rough and ready ceilings

It’s Friday and it’s springtime – wouldn’t it be great to take off for a rustic retreat like this one? The ceiling is the dominant feature here, with that massive scissors truss and the worn and weathered wood. And two kitchen tables, too, that’s beyond perfection:

This next cottage is even more weathered. The kitchen was inspired by 1920′s yachts – you can see that in the teak counters and the slatted cabinet fronts, as well as the blue and white colors. I was a little worried about how the ceiling fits into the theme – no yacht worth its salt would be seen with its timbers in that state, unless shipwrecked.  But you simply have to turn things upside down – those scruffy beams are what you’d see deep down in the bilges, not in the cabins or above decks. (Works for me, anyway)

This last unfinished ceiling is not quite so exciting. Plywood panels and globe lights don’t really add anything here, do they? More of an escape from than an escape to as far as I’m concerned:
