Ninety percent boredom

03.28.2010 · Posted in Oh, really?

This bathroom is really quite boring – I’m only posting it for the view of Paris outside the window, because it’s Sunday and I’m still pretending I’m in Paris (via):

It's all about the view

Yeah, yeah, it’s all nice and clean and rectangular and monochromatic…yawn. But that’s OK, I’ll just look at the view outside.

This flat does have one feature that is anything but boring – this staircase is amazing but also downright scary:

Dramatic stairs - if you have the stomach for them

What’s that quote about minimalism being 90% boredom and 10% sheer terror? Oh, maybe that was warfare – nearly the same thing.  I almost think the architects/designers used up every ounce of their creativity on those stairs – the kitchen is even more boring than the bathroom:

There's only one prima donna here

The fireplace is nice though, right? And the windows.  The rest of it might just as well be a foam-core model for all the life there is in it.  I’m sure all of this is awesome and well executed from an architectural point of view (except possibly for that little black table pushed up to the island – that looks like an afterthought), but boy, do they need an interior designer over there, right now.

  1. They need way more than chairs here, though, don’t they

  2. francois says:

Bouf. It annoys me when they throw in some designer chairs as if that saves the rest of it. Chairs are an easy get out.

  3. I won’t be able to do the upstairs, though – too scary for me

  4. Very noble of you. I’d be delighted to help.

  5. I’ll volunteer to move to Paris for a few months and give it what it needs. A sacrifice, but I’m up for it …

  6. Hi Pam – yes, looks like they forgot something. I usually don’t mind up to the minute new combined with old architecture – but this one is so boringly sterile.

  7. Very tactful Kelly – when can we go and stay with your friend?

  8. Looks like they ran out of money after the fancy shmancy fixtures. The photo of the fireplace detail gives the age of this apartment away. I’m all for minimalism and eclecticism when done well. This one just looks like their still waiting for their furniture to arrive –and the rest of the staircase.

  9. I have a friend who lives in a top floor like that one. It’s still original. I prefer it to this one. It’s sure not…my favorite. (How’s that for supreme tact?)

  10. ‘eh, just a blank slate needing some love!!!
