Kitchen warfare – when appliances clash
I think the refrigerator and the Aga have been squaring off here, and no surprise, the redoubtable cast iron range is getting the better of that smooth, new-fangled, American style refrigerator. Doesn’t it look as if that fridge is trying to sidle out of the picture to the left?
The wonderful Kelly, at Kitchen Sync, wrote a nice post about how to avoid the all too common kitchen dings – mostly, planning, planning, planning, but Kelly says it much better! Funny, there seems to be plenty of space in this kitchen, it’s not exactly over-loaded with cabinets and storage, is it? You would think the fridge could have been put a little further from the range. Oh, but then where would you hang the oven gloves? This is really a situation where side-by-side doesn’t make any sense.
I wonder if any planning at all took place here? Just look at that oh-so-generous work surface to the right of the Aga – it looks like a plant stand to me, and there’s barely enough room on it for the utensil jar, let alone anything else. At least the trash can is handy.
We’re always being told, here in the US, that Europeans take the kitchen cabinets with them when they move house (although I never heard of anybody doing so in my years in the UK). Maybe that’s what happened here? Much as I like the unfitted look, I do believe it takes more than a bunch of appliances to make a kitchen.

Yes, yes, the Aga does look a tad shamefaced. Bad Aga! No biscuit! It’s a shame too, because that ding could have been prevented so easily.
Thanks for the link. I won’t be able to get my head in the door…
