High contrast – black and white kitchens

Black and white, a great color combo for the kitchen. I mean really, how can you go wrong? Here are four of my recent favorites, each with their own unique style. First, from the Daily Mail – a beautiful white Aga, so let’s call it English style:

This little gem, by designers MHZ, appeared in KBCulture lately. Don’t you just love the black and white photos in the black and white room? I think you’d have to keep the cooking fairly minimal in this space, though:

and a Scandinavian version, from photographer Pia Ulin. That white tile with black grout pops up a lot in Scandinavian kitchens, doesn’t it? It’s like a default backsplash.

Of course, there are really quite a lot of ways to go wrong with black and white. Here’s just one example

Just because they can?

But, then again, it’s not the color that’s to blame  – that island would be monstrous whatever color it happened to be, and what are those things cascading down from ceiling?Well, OK, the color of the ceiling is a problem. I don’t know if a black ceiling ever looks good – just too much gloom pressing down on you, I think.  But I’m willing to be educated – if you know of a great looking black ceiling, please be sure to let me know!  (via)
