Yellow kitchen, with apples

10.17.2009 · Posted in Kitchens, Random thoughts

Yesterday I picked some sun-warmed apples from my tree. I set them on the kitchen counter, and all through the day as I worked, I saw the light changing on those apples. Couldn’t resist more experiments with my camera. Please forgive the self indulgence! (“It’s my party blog and I’ll cry if post what I want to”). BTW, the colors for this kitchen were based on the exteriors of old buildings in Talinn, Estonia. It may not be the most obvious inspiration for our Mediterranean climate, but it makes me happy. You can just about see the “Mid-Century” wall of random travertine in the hallway that I decided to keep – the earthy tones in the concrete counters repeat the travertine color in the kitchen.

The stainless steel refrigerator reflects different colors all day long, depending on the light. I think the reddish glow comes from the market umbrella outside.  I still can’t get over so many apples still on the tree in October – they may not look perfect, but they taste delicious:

In the late afternoon this time of year the sun peeks through clerestory windows in the family room – it really made the apples glow as everything else faded away
