More on those skinny islands
Attempting to finish my train of thought from yesterday – still on the subject of that skinny island. For my client, I’m recommending a narrow worktable in the center of the kitchen, since we don’t have space for a substantial island. Here are a couple of examples that have been filed on my computer for just such an occasion as this:

If you’ve followed this blog at all, you’ll know I have a soft spot for kitchen tables. A bar-height kitchen table gives you that extra bit of counter for work or socializing , without taking up all the floor-space that a real sit-down table needs. It’s also a lot less weighty, visually, than an island with storage. And you can tuck those stools pretty much out of the way underneath when you need to. I think it’s a case of problem solved.
Yes, exactly, kitchen tables …. maybe we really were separated at birth.
Skinny and tall kitchen tables are a much better solution than a shallow island, I’m with you. Besides, nothing screams home to me like a kitchen table.
