More on those skinny islands

Attempting to finish my train of thought from yesterday – still on the subject of that skinny island. For my client, I’m recommending a narrow worktable in the center of the kitchen, since we don’t have space for a substantial island. Here are a couple of examples that have been filed on my computer for just such an occasion as this:

If you’ve followed this blog at all, you’ll know I have a soft spot for kitchen tables.  A bar-height kitchen table gives you that extra bit of counter for work or socializing , without taking up all the floor-space that a real sit-down table needs.  It’s also a lot less weighty, visually, than an island with storage. And you can tuck those stools pretty much out of the way underneath when you need to.  I think it’s a case of problem solved.

  1. Yes, exactly, kitchen tables …. maybe we really were separated at birth.

  2. Skinny and tall kitchen tables are a much better solution than a shallow island, I’m with you. Besides, nothing screams home to me like a kitchen table.
