Luscious Lighting
Here’s a gorgeous piece of eye-candy: task lighting and drop-dead gorgeous focal point in one. (Found here). You’d have to keep up with your dusting and polishing, but I think it would be well worth it.

At first glance I thought this was Artemide’s Nur Pendant, but on reflection (sorry) it’s the wrong shape and finish. Here is the Nur for comparison. (via)

Artemide Nur Pendants
A chandelier or dramatic pendant makes an unbeatable focal point in a kitchen. If it’s a single fixture, you should always err on the side of too big rather than too small, otherwise you miss out on the drama. And I’d advise bringing it down as low as you can get away with, too. Here’s a minimal kitchen with a dramatically non-minimal chandelier from artichoke-ltd. Don’t you love the new/old juxtaposition?

A designer’s lighting tip when using a decorative chandelier, whether in the kitchen or the dining area, is to focus tiny halogen recessed spots onto the chandelier (from at least two sides). Then you can enjoy the sparkle even when the chandelier is not lit, or when it is dimmed right down.
