A Swedish Dream House
We all know and love wonderful Scandinavian design, don’t we – from the elegant charm of Gustavian furniture, to cool, clean-lined contemporary and everything in between. Today’s “weekend escape” fantasy house is from that “everything in between” category – Edlunda 1912, an Arts & Crafts island villa in the Stockholm Archipelago.

Serving Room
This is the “serving room” (Butler’s Pantry?) – could it be any more Swedish? As well as the gorgeous creamy painted wood and the black and white tile floor, it has classic white and gray marble counters and butter-yellow walls, very Carl Larsson:

On to the kitchen, I love the twist of that distinctly not Arts & Crafts light fixture (almost like the one I wrote about a few days ago here).

Here’s a little vanity sink with more of that classic marble and a watery outlook – an old window like this adds something to any view:

And then of course there’s the porch for long, leisurely lunches after your morning on the water – just imagine the fresh fish, the earthy potatoes, and those wonderful summer berries …

Lunch with the View
Then the perfect spot to relax in the afternoon sun, sleeping off that fabulous lunch – you can see the villa overlooking the dock. And there’s a lovely little shelter in case it’s raining while you wait for someone to bring the launch around:

There are lots more pictures at Edlunda 1912 – you’ll find grand Arts & Crafts rooms, tiled stoves, welcoming bedrooms, everything you need. Best of all it’s available for vacations – if you decide to go, please invite me along, I’ll do all the cleaning and washing up for you …
