Aga – is it the poshest stove there is?
A hilarious tragi-comic post by Melody at Kitchen and Residential Design (Comfort food: fried mice) got me all nostalgic about old fashioned ranges and especially the Aga cooker. It certainly has the aura of a hunting. shooting and fishing lifestyle, you are supposed to sit round it as you plan your church fete or hunt ball, with your labradors at your feet and your green wellies warming nearby. And of you are a Brit, you will be listening to the Archers, unless you are so posh that you actually are the Archers, of course. So that sent me searching through cyberspace for the poshest Aga photo I could find, and here is the best I could do so far (via Twyford Cookers) … see the green wellies and the ancestral portraits?

Here are a few more competitors – I believe that a cream Aga is intrinsically more posh than a claret one, but the wellies make a big difference … these two are from Plain English

I think the black Aga above is trying just a little too hard – here’s the classic cream in a more contemporary setting, via Livingetc – one needs an Aga for the house in town too, doesn’t one?

I’m sure there must be far posher Agas out there – please dear readers reader, if you know where they can be found, post a comment with the link and share the knowledge. I’m going to have to think about what the prize should be for this competiton – you could share your thoughts on that, too.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that – what will you do with the flue? Is your Aga gas, electric? It sounds like it will be very dramatic – I’d love to see apicture when you are done.
Any pics of an Aga under a window? I have one to be installed, but it can only go under my large 8 foot window!
[...] afraid this one is not eligible for the Aga contest, as to the best of my knowledge the range in this picture is a Rayburn. It should win prizes for [...]
Wow – that’s huge (the file not the Aga). You are on the right track – I will post a smaller version with some other contestants. Love all the dogs!
You mean the prize is not an Aga cooker? (Make mine a white one, pleae). How about a pair of “wellies”?
There is quite a good contender at http://www.poshdoghotel.co.uk
