More on the microwave

To follow up on microwave location, here’s a small microwave tucked into a shelf, out of the way but still accessible. Now,  I might have placed it in the appliance garage below, with the up and over door, but my clients preferred it this way, and it certainly wastes no space.

One thing to note is that small microwaves are practically always hinged left, so this wouldn’t work in the opposite orientation  – you would have to reach round the microwave door every time you opened it. Also, you have to carefully check the microwave specs for airflow requirements, it might be necessary to cut into the cabinet side or the drywall  to allow for ventilation space.

It’s definitely a neater solution than chopping up the line of your wall cabinets by hanging the microwave below them, and it beats the heck out of the dreaded microwave/ventilator combo as a focal point over the range.
